How would we describe The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 20 in three words? Shocking, decadent, melancholy. From Alaric Saltzman’s unexpected death — and then then even more shocking transformation — to all the sizzling tension between Caroline, Tyler and Klaus, we were left struggling for air in between our screams and our tears! Full of glamorous 1920s fashion, sinister twists, and intimate moments, “Do Not Go Gentle” put the “roar” in Roaring Twenties and turned out to be one hell of a decade dance! Now hold onto all those emotions and get ready to transform them into poetry with this week’s TVD haiku recap!

The Vampire Diaries Episode 3.20: “Do Not Go Gentle” Haiku Recap:

1. Dance decorating:
   Caroline tells Elena
   to give Stef a shot.
2. Car ships Stelena.
   Why? Because their love’s “epic.”
   First Rose, now Barbie.
3. Elena invites
   Stefan to dance. He’s thrilled!
   Damon? Not so much.
4. Ding dong. Stef’s at the door
   door. Elena opens, their
   silence speaks volumes.
5. Damon gives Ric
   a call. ‘What’s up?’ he asks.
   ‘Acting sketch,’ Ric says.
6. Today’s news headline:
   Psycho history teacher
   joins crazy witch team.
7. Roaring Twenties whoopee:
   Shebas and Sheiks fill the gym,
   Flappers dance Charleston.
8. Stef wraps Elena
   up in his toned arms, dips her low.
   Suave Salvatore moves.
9. Elena enjoys
   ruining great moments. Tries to
   talk about Denver.
10. Stef beats her to it:
    ‘What happened in Denver, stays
    in Denver. Okay boo?’
11. Damon arrives, bears
    bad news: ‘Um, guys? We’ve got a
    situation…” Yikes!
12. Surprise! Gangsta Ty
    in the house. Caroline freaks
    out. What about Klaus?!
13. Ty says, ‘Don’t sweat it,
    babygirl!’ Swings his lady
    around. Oh, sweet youth.
14. Horsefeathers. Klaus joins
    festivities in swanky
    white suit. What a bloke!
15. Ty has to pretend
    he’s still under sire spell.
    Let’s Klaus dance with Car.
16. Klaus tries to seduce
    Car with talk of floozies and
    travel. She blushes.
17. Meanwhile, Bon’s getting
    jiggy with Jamie on dance
    floor. She’s jubilant!
18. Crap. Esther pops up,
    urges Elena to join
    her on small field trip.
19. Damon and Stefan
    chase after them…what the?! SALT!
    Damn that seasoning.
20. Mommy Dearest brings the
    doppelganger to graveyard,
    crazy Ric’s waiting.
21. What’s the plan? Esther’s
    going to change Ric into
    Mikael a fierce beast.
22. She and Saltzman know
    each other — met in ghost world.
    Ick. Cougar alert!
23. Ric is going to
    become a vamp’s worst nightmare.
    Move over, Buffy!
24. Mommy Dearest brings
    up Aunt Jenna. Bitch slap her,
    Elena. What nerve!
25. Witch mom taps into
    dark magic, begins the creepy
    ritual. Oh no!
26. Top ingredient?
    Elena’s blood! She’s got that
    sweet monster nectar…
27. Bonnie and Jamie
    make out. Damon interrupts.
    Rude much? Let her live!
28. Damon needs her
    powers. ‘Help us, Miss Bennett!’
    he pleads. She obliges.
29. Bonnie’s undoing
    Esther’s spell. Klaus threatens Jamie.
    Hybrid be cray cray!
30. Stefan speaks up:
    ‘Kill her boo and she won’t help.’
    The voice of reason.
31. Matt and Jer team up.
    Jerrat to the rescue? They burst
    in guns blazing.
32. Esther waves hands,
    forces them to point weapons
    at each other. Shoot!
33. Their hands shake
    with restraint. Beads of sweat drip
    down. Please, someone, help!
34. Stab! Esther crumbles
    to ground. Good Ric saves the
    day but not himself.
35. Boundary spell lifted.
    Klaus zooms home to yell at mom’s
    corpse and undagger Bex.
36. Alaric’s ready
    to face death. So sad! Lone tear
    rolls down Jer’s smooth cheek.
37. Ric hugs Elena,
    soothes Jer’s sorrow: ‘Stay strong now.
    Love you lots, kiddos.’
38. The gang gathers in
    cemetery with candles
    to bid Ric farewell.
39. ‘Rage rage against the
    dying of the light!’ their wide
    eyes glisten. Such chills!
40. Cue melancholy
    Fray song. Sweep over morose faces.
    Poor Ric chokes back tears.
41. Meredith gives Ric
    sedative to ease pain. He
    slips away gently.
42. Elena rids Ric’s
    classroom closet of stakes. ‘I
    have no one!’ she cries.
43. Stefan wipes her tears
    away. ‘No, girl…you’ve got me.’
    he softly whispers.
44. Elena and Stef have
    heart to heart in school gym. Bonnie
    spoons with Jamie.
45. Tyler and Car talk
    too. She tells him she wants him
    and only him. Swoon!
46. Damon stays by Ric’s
    side. They share bourbon, laughs, tears.
    Best friends till the end!
47. Night’s not over though!
    Esther crashes Bon’s dream
    Says, “Finish the job!’
48. Bonnie sleepwalks to
    graveyard. Gives Damon witchy
    migraine. ‘Ouch!’ he screams.
49. Slices palm, feeds Ric.
    He perks up, gulps down Bon. YUMMMMMMMM!
    Blood…does a body good!
50. Watch out, Mystic Falls.
    There’s a new big bad in town
    …he means business!
